Art Radio is Kansas City’s one-hour, weekly program dedicated to the arts in the greater Kansas City metropolitan area. Art Radio is broadcast on KKFI 90.1 FM on Friday mornings at 10 AM.

Art Radio features the thoughts, works and passions of the best regional and visiting artists in the greater Kansas City area through in-depth interviews with writers, actors, directors, visual artists, critics, theorists, architects, urban planners and creative thinkers; and the performance of stories, essays, poems, drama and reviews. Guests on Art Radio have included visual artist Ken Ferguson, theatre scholar Felicia Londre, fiction writer James McKinley, mystery writer Nancy Pickard, theater director Cynthia Levin, poet Robert Stewart, theater critic Robert Trussell and the award winning writers originally from the Kansas City area Richard Rhodes, Sara Paretsky and Scott Heim.

Art Radio produces a CD series entitled Kansas City Writers. The first volume is a double CD set featuring eight Kansas City area short fiction writers: Amy Blackmarr, Elliot Tennyson Carmichael, G. S. Sharat Chandra, Debra Di Blasi, Pablo La Rosa, James McKinley, Nancy Pickard and Susan Weston. The CD cover is designed and hand-printed by Kansas City artist Russell Ferguson and Hammerpress.

Art Radio is a component of KKFI, 90.1 FM, which is a non-commercial, educational, public radio station licensed to Mid-coast Radio Project, Inc. The goals of KKFI are (i) to serve the greater Kansas City metropolitan area by providing multiple perspectives and diversity, (ii) to provide a forum for a variety of cultures and political philosophies by providing media access to groups and individuals with alternative viewpoints, (iii) to create and cultivate, on and off the air, an atmosphere of racial, ethnic and sexual equality, and (iv) to expand the thinking of all persons on a wide range of alternatives available in our community.

Promoting traditional art and artists is one way Kaw Valley Arts & Humanities, Inc. enhances the community through cultural awareness.
